The Mask You Live In Screening ~ hu-MAN Up & Partners
Event Information
Description
hu-MAN Up, along with partners HollaBack Atlanta, One Billion Rising Atlanta and Men Stopping Violence present The Mask You Live In. This powerful documentary follows boys and young men as they struggle to stay true to themselves while negotiating America's narrow definition of masculinity.
MATURE CONTENT: VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED.
Media, peer group and even adult pressures encourage boys to disconnect from their emotions, devalue authentic friendships, objectify and degrade women and solve problems through conflict. These toxic gender stereotypes interconnect with race, class, and circumstance, creating a maze of identity issues. The film ultimately illustrates how we, as a society, can raise healthier boys and help men break free from the constraints of hypermasculinity, which we'll further examine in a brief post-screening discussion. Proceeds from the screening will benefit hosting organizations.
