Description

Library’s Packard Campus to Host Country Music Duo
Country Music Stars Connie Smith and Marty Stuart

The Library’s Packard Campus for Audio Visual Conservation is hosting a night of music and conversation featuring Country Music Hall of Famer Connie Smith, as part of the ongoing “The Marty Stuart Sessions” concert series at the Packard Campus Theater.

Smith will be joined by her husband and multiple Grammy-Award winning country music singer-songwriter Marty Stuart at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, at the Packard Campus Theater, located in Culpeper, Virginia. The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are required for entry. Tickets can be reserved at http://www.conniesmith.eventbrite.com beginning Monday, October 16 at 9:00 a.m.

Smith is held in high regard by her peers. In 2012, she became the 12th solo female vocalist and 19th woman to be elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame. Her debut single “Once a Day” was the first debut release by a female artist to go to number one on the music charts and she followed up with numerous hit singles and albums throughout her career. Smith has also been a member of the Grand Ole Opry, a weekly country-music stage concert in Nashville, Tennessee. She regularly performs at the Grand Ole Opry, tours with her backup group The Sundowners, and occasionally appears with her husband of twenty years, Marty Stuart.

The evening will include an in-depth conversation between Smith and Stuart on her musical career and the evolution of female country music stars over the years. The talk will be followed by a musical performance by both artists.

“The Marty Stuart Sessions” concert series is made possible in part by the Library of Congress Packard Campus for Audio Visual Conservation and the Marty Stuart Congress of Country Music. The series is a part of an ongoing effort to celebrate, heighten awareness of and preserve traditional American music. In 2016, the Library acquired hundreds of hours of Marty Stuart’s audio-visual collection of country music, one of the largest private collections of memorabilia documenting country-music history.
