Description

This is part of the MUSEF- Music for a Sunday Afternoon at the Farm concert series

The Martha Bassett Birthday Bash in 2018 is the first edition of what we hope to make an annual event in late April or early May. It is not only a celebration of Martha Bassett and what she has meant and continues to mean to the local music scene, it is a celebration of friends, neighbors, neighborhoods, and communities. It a busy world where we only see our neighbors in passing, this is a chance to relax among friends, and make friends. As the event evolves it will become a place for Martha Bassett to showcase her talented friends as well.

Bring your picnic, cooler, and lawn chair. The gate opens at 6pm with the music starting at 7pm. If you have a birthday in 2018 come celebrate, If not, check your pulse. Birthday cake will be served until we run out.

Admission is free but there is a suggested donation of $20. Please do not feel obligated to donate. Give what you want or nothing. WE WANT YOU HERE and it will be dark when we come around for donation, so no one can judge. Enough said!

Martha Bassett was raised on the bluegrass and gospel of her native West Virginia farmland. Classically trained, Martha is blessed with a crystalline tone, a remarkable range, and sultry delivery. Her performances are known for their emotional honesty and visceral impact, making everyone in the room feel she’s singing directly to them. Her musical inspiration moves effortlessly through swing, jazz, folk, country, and rock guaranteeing playful variety at her live shows. Mixing originals with choice covers, she navigates sexy torch songs, rip-your-heart-out ballads, and slinky groove tunes with ease supported by a band equally comfortable in acoustic and electric settings.

Regularly seen on stages at Merlefest, the Eastern Music Festival, Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival and concert venues throughout North Carolina and Virginia, she’s opened for Lyle Lovett, Tony Bennett, the Avett Brothers, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Jim Lauderdale, and Chuck Prophet. Her latest album is "Dark of the Night".

This is an outdoor concert on a private farm. We open to the public only for these concerts.

Bring your cooler, and a picnic if you will be eating. There will be no food or beverages available for purchase. Bring whatever you wish to drink (no glass containers please).

Bring your lawn chair

The concert is under a shade tree canopy but will move into an arena if it rains

Portable restroom facilities will be provided.

Please walk on the grass paths or the graveled drive and avoid the mulched areas

Dogs and other pets are not allowed

Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property

We encourage you to bring a flashlight for returning to your car. The parking area is not lighted.

Please create a listening room environment once the music starts.

We have no sponsors and present these concerts to share the musicians we love. We also think one of the best ways to build community is with music. Get to know your neighbors!

The willingness of people to donate to the performers has made this work. We think you for your givng in the past, and for what you will give in the future.
