Event description
Join us for an evening of Americana, rock and soul with Maine's own The Mallett Brothers Band with special guest Eastern Mountain Time

About this Event

The Mallett Brothers Band is an independent rock and roll / Americana / country band from Maine. Their busy tour schedule since forming in 2009 has helped them to build a dedicated fanbase across the U.S. and beyond while still calling the state of Maine their home. With a style that ranges from alt-country to Americana, country, jam and roots rock, theirs is a musical melting pot that's influenced equally by the singer/songwriter tradition as by harder rock, classic country and psychedelic sounds.

Texas Hill Country Explore Magazine calls them “New England’s wildly eclectic crew of genre rebels.” Bill Copeland Music News says “Combining their authentic roots rock sound with a reflective lyrical style that perceives stories on the level of epic myth, it’s like William Faulkner has been resurrected with an electric guitar in hand.."

The Mallett Brothers Band has performed at some of the country’s top venues and festivals, including Portland, Maine’s State Theatre; Austin, Texas’s famed Continental Club; Alexandria, Virginia’s Birchmere; New Hampshire’s Meadowbrook Pavilion; Nashville’s Bluebird; Denver’s Cervantes’; and Little Rock’s The Rev Room, to name a few. A list of artists for whom the band has provided direct support would include The Turnpike Troubadours, The Outlaws, Blackberry Smoke, Robert Earl Keen, .38 Special, Molly Hatchet, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, and many more. Festival appearances include FloydFest (Virginia), Hop Jam (Vermont), Nateva (Maine), The New England Country Music Festival (New Hampshire), Eastbound Throwdown (New York), and many more.

PRESS

"...Over five independently released LPs—the sixth, Vive l’Acadie! is due June 15—the Malletts refined their sound… to capture the “frontier mentality” that not only runs through Maine but all of America’s wide-open spaces..." - Relix Magazine

"Gutsy country rock" - Americana UK

"Americana music is many things, but it’s not typically known as an ethnic stew. But on Vive L’Acadie, The Mallett Brothers Band, sporting influences from Northern New England, French-speaking Canada, the Cajun South, Texas and even Ireland, has cooked up a sort of poutine gumbo that’s spicy enough to melt your turntable." - Americana Highways

"The sound of The Mallett Brothers Band comes from deep within the pines of Maine. The embodiment of a flannel clad morning chill and a bit of sap and dirt caked on the knees of your favorite well worn denim." - Red Line Roots

"The drama of roaring rapids, the danger of 1,000 floating logs and the sorrow of an old man dying alone in a cabin... With this record ["The Falling of the Pine"], the Malletts do for Maine woods songs what Boston’s Dropkicks do for Celtic punk: They punch it into high gear." - Bob Keyes (Portland Press Herald)

"When we first listen to a band, our brain reflexively logs them under the most fitting genre masthead, waiting for the next time your itch for “noise-core goth rock” needs to be scratched. Rare are the bands that challenge the inexorable classification by playing whatever the hell they want. Take a gamble to overthrow the whole system by listening to New England’s wildly eclectic crew of genre rebels, The Mallett Brothers Band." - Texas Hill Country Explore

"I’ve been waiting for an album like this for years." - Bluecollarsongwriting.com

"This band projects a self-assuredness that's infectious in a world where it's becoming harder and harder to find things that are real and genuine." - Sam Pfeifle (Portland Phoenix)

"It’s like William Faulkner has been resurrected with an electric guitar in hand." - Bill Copeland Music News

---

In August of 2016 Eastern Mountain Time went into the barn/studio to start working on the songs for their follow up to 2015’s self-titled album, Eastern Mountain Time (released on Portsmouth, New Hampshire’s burst & bloom records). The goal was to craft a song cycle that would serve as a nod to both golden country and northern New England’s green mountains. In the year leading up to these sessions Sean Hood (guitar & vocals), Danny LeFrancois (drums & vocals), and Jason Pappas (bass) played countless - eh, you could probably count ‘em - Eastern Mountain Time shows throughout Vermont and the northeast, crafting and living inside of the songs that would come to make up the bulk of Mountain Country. In order to make a real-deal country album, the band enlisted Paper Castles’ Brennan Mangan to play pedal steel guitar, piano, and organ. It immediately became clear during recording that Mangan’s vision and skill would pair beautifully with the band’s musical sensibilities and he has since become a steady member of the EMT live band.

Mountain Country was self-released digitally and on vinyl on November 10th 2017.

In a review published in advance of the release, Seven Days’ Dan Bolles praised the record, writing “This is shuffling, 1970s-style country music as much by way or urban poet Charles Bukowski as Gram Parsons. As a result, the album has an edge that saves it from sad-sack navel-gazing” and “Altogether, Mountain Country could serve as either the soundtrack to wasted nights or the odd clarity of the hangover that sometimes follows them.”
