The Magic of Western Ireland: A Photographic Excursion with Patricia Delker

This trip provides photographers an opportunity to experience and photograph the unique natural beauty, magical land and seascapes and delve into the history and mystery of western Ireland including the Aran Islands.

Whether this is your first trip to Ireland, or you’re a repeat visitor, you’ll enjoy all this area has to offer including endless photography opportunities and time to experience the heart and soul of the Emerald Isle.

Areas we’ll visit and photograph include:

• Connemara, bounded by the Atlantic and set within a particularly scenic corner of County Galway, the region is famous for its wild terrain and soft colors. More information about the area is available here.

• Travel by ferry to the Aran Islands just off the west coast. These islands are rich in history, early monastic churches, stone forts, sacred sites and breathtaking land and seascapes. More information about the area is available here.

• The Burren, County Clare is home to one of Ireland's most compelling landscapes. More information about the area is available here.

Who should attend: PhotoMidwest members interested in expanding their photography experience and having fun. Participants should have a strong working knowledge of their photography equipment.

Note: Although the walking is easy it will require walking on uneven ground with some steps to climb. Moderate walking alternatives are also available.

Date & Time: Sept. 23 - Sept. 30, 2023

The trip starts and ends in Shannon, Ireland. Participants should plan to arrive at Shannon Airport early (no later than 10am) on Sept. 23 and the workshop ends in the afternoon of Sept. 30.

Lodging and Meals: Lodging for seven nights in small boutique hotels, all breakfasts, four dinners and one lunch. Note: single rooms are limited to medically necessary only.

Trip price: Either $2400 (early bird member price) by March 1st or a $500 deposit received by March. 1, 2023 with the remaining $1900 due by July 1st. Trip pricing increases to $2550 after March 1, 2023. Currently open only to PhotoMidwest Members.

• Trip cost includes lodging for 7 nights in small inns/guest houses, private coach transportation including pickup/drop-off at Shannon Airport, ferry tickets, guest speakers, all breakfasts, 4 evening meals and 1 lunch.

• Trip costs do NOT include: airfare to/from Shannon, Ireland, personal purchases, meals other than those noted, liquor, individual transportation, personal and travel insurance (highly recommended).

• Of note: You are responsible for transporting luggage to/from your rooms. Our accommodations are in boutique inns/guest houses and single rooms are limited to medical necessity only.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:  

We strongly encourage trip insurance. 

• If you decide to cancel before midnight on June 1, 2023 you will receive a complete refund of your deposit (or full payment) minus fees held by Eventbrite.  

• If you cancel after midnight on June 1, 2023 you will receive a full refund only if we have a replacement for you. If we can’t find a replacement, the cancellation fee is $500 plus Eventbrite fees.

PhotoMidwest reserves the right to cancel the trip at any time due to: Acts of God, International pandemic, Natural Disaster, injury or Illness to the group leader, Acts of Terrorism/Evacuation, Political upheaval. If PhotoMidwest cancels full refunds will be provided. 

After September 1, 2023 refunds are not guaranteed.

Patricia Delker is an internationally exhibited photographer, trip organizer and former PhotoMidwest President. She has organized and led numerous trips to this area of Ireland and knows it and the people extremely well. She’ll be joined by Robin Downs, PhotoMidwest President and Ralph Russo, PhotoMidwest Vice-President.
