Event description

Description

We are excited to present the 3rd annual Madison Coed Doubles Beach Volleyball Championship at the finish line of the Paddle and Portage race at Olbrich Park on June 15, 2019!

Check-in for participants starts at 7 am with pool play starting at 8 am sharp. After pool play each team will be placed in either a championship playoff bracket or a consolation bracket for playoff matches (best of 3). Each team is guaranteed to play a minimum of 6 games. We expect to start the playoffs at approximately 11 am with the final match ending around 3 pm.

The winners of the championship bracket will receive a large cash prize, with smaller prizes for both the 2nd place team and the winners of the consolation bracket.

Each player will receive a wristband that entitles them to a food item (such as a bratwurst) and a drink (including beer).

Rules:

· We may have official referees for some playoff matches, but in the absence of a referee, teams will call penalties on themselves or each other. In the case of a disagreement, the point will be replayed.

· Let serves are legal.

· A block counts as one of your three hits. The blocker may take the second hit.

· No hand-setting on serve-receive. Hands must be together if both hands or arms contact the ball.

· Hands may be apart and double contact is allowed only when defending a hard-driven spike with no discernible arc.

· Hand-sets must not be held, the ball must not stop moving, and there should be no more than one rotation of the ball between the set and the hit

· Hand-setting the ball over the net is prohibited

· Directing an attack with the fingers is prohibited as this constitutes extended contact with the ball. Clean pokes and “roll shots” are encouraged.

· Contacting the net with any part of the body is illegal unless the ball pushes the net into you.

· Passing your body under the net is permitted so long as it does not interfere with the other team’s ability to play the ball.

*** (NEW THIS YEAR:) For the semi-finals and finals in the championship bracket, we will use Wilson AVP 2 balls (currently the official AVP ball). In other games you may use any ball that both teams agree on; if there's a disagreement, use a Wilson. ***

We will be accepting a maximum of 16 teams.
