Event description

Description

The Loop Run Relay will take place on Pima County’s iconic Loop, comprised of more than 100 miles of shared-use paths around metropolitan Tucson with links to Marana, Oro Valley, and South Tucson. Pima County residents and visitors enjoy the Loop on foot, bike, horse, skates, and scooters. When completed, the Loop will total 131 miles and connect Rillito River Park, Santa Cruz River Park, and Pantano River Park with Julian Wash and the Harrison Greenway.

The first annual Loop Run Relay is a 50-mile relay on completed portions of the Loop. The event consists of five-person teams, with each team completing 50 miles, while each team member runs two or more non-consecutive legs of the 10-leg event. The Loop Run Relay finish line will be an environmental fair, with food from local vendors and family style entertainment.

The relay is open to all interested competitors, but entry will be limited to 100 five-person teams. Teams may choose to walk or run the event, and they may have fewer than the 5-person maximum, but not more. The limit on team members is a logistical choice by the race organizers to help streamline transitions for runners during the race.

An exciting course makes an exciting foot race. The Loop Run Relay course is on the paved shared-use paths, sidewalks, and dirt roads. The legs will vary in length from approximately 3.5 miles to 8 miles, and all legs are relatively flat with no major hills. Each participant will total between 9 and 13 miles of running or walking.
