Event description

Description

ElderSource Institute is proud to host a very important Community Conversation Event, “The LGBT Lens: Challenges and Issues in LGBT Caregiving.” Darnell Smith will be emceeing this event, as we open up conversation about caregiving, provide valuable information and resources, and bring attention to the unique challenges for caregiving within the LGBT community.

Our keynote speaker, Christopher MacLellan, has been an ardent advocate for caregivers since finding himself in the caregiving role for his partner, Richard Schiffer, who lost his battle with cancer in 2014. Chris’s presentation will include sharing the Pulitzer Prize nominated and award winning documentary, “In Sickness and In Health: A Couple’s Final Journey”, a documentary about him and his partner during the last year of Richard’s life. In addition to Chris’s presentation, ElderSource Institute is bringing together a highly experienced panel to further the discussion on caregiving. Our panelists include professionals Clay Meux, Toula Wootan and Evin Willman who have expertise in various areas of caregiving as well as various connections to the LGBT community. The panel will focus on personal experiences, finding support and resources, as well as legal considerations.

This event is free and open to all members of the community. Space is limited! Please pre-register by April 7th, 2017.
