“Teachings from the Turtle Clan” is a program designed by Chuck Gentlemoon DeMund to educate the public about the culture of the indigenous people known as Lenape, with a specific focus on those who stayed behind after removal and assimilated.

Growing up along the Lenape Sipu (Delaware River) in the 1960’s and 1970’s, Mr. DeMund and his family hunted and fished in NJ and Pennsylvania in the shadow of the Delaware Water Gap. Family stories and teachings focused on living harmoniously with our environment and on deepening his understanding of his family heritage.

Mr. DeMund is currently a Council member of the tribe and Chief for both his tribe and the Eastern Medicine Society, an inter-tribal group dedicated to keeping the indigenous culture alive. He is a gifted storyteller and an honored drummer at tribal pow wows and events.

During the program, enjoy scenic views of Lambertville and New Hope aboard the steamboat SPLASH on the beautiful Lenape Sipu (Delaware River)
