Event description

Description

The Free Library is proud to welcome Dr. Christopher Close of St. Joseph’s University and Dr. Christopher Atkins of the Philadelphia Museum of Art for a discussion of the Reformation, the revolution of mind and spirit which continues to this day!

Beginning as a debate in Germany in 1517 on Christian religious practices, the Reformation provoked a world-changing crisis. During the controversy that followed, new ideals of religious freedom and individual liberty emerged.

Recalling the first great debate of the Reformation, the Heidelberg Disputation of April 1518, Dr. Close and Dr. Atkins will discuss the Reformation’s impact on religion, politics and art – and the principle of self-expression.

This event, free to the public, is sponsored by the Education, Philosophy and Religion Department of the Free Library of Philadelphia: 215-686-5392.

An RSVP is not required but is appreciated.
