Event Details

The Learning Collaborative on Sexual Assault Survivors with I/DD

In September 2017, the MA Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC) ACL funded project will host four regional, in-person multi-disciplinary case discussions. The goals of the discussion groups are: 1) to deepen staff knowledge about sexual assaults committed against individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) and, 2) to integrate service delivery and/or training between Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Rape Crisis Centers (RCCs), Awareness and Action (A & A) trainers and DPPC. At the start of each gathering, one staff member will present a case for discussion.

Joanna Bridger, Clinical Services Director, Riverside Trauma Center, will facilitate the case discussions. Lunch will be provided courtesy of the MA Building Partnerships Initiative. Please register early to reserve a seat in your service region. If you are interested in presenting a case for discussion, please contact Joanna Bridger at: Joanna will help you prepare the case for presentation.

In addition to the case presentation and discussion, we will also have a 30 minute ‘presentation’ to introduce the contact information for the new mobile Sexual Assault Response Unit (SARU)within DPPC that is launching this fall to help sexual assault survivors with I/DD understand PTS symptoms and to access the full range of multi-disciplinary supports available to them (medical, psychological, legal, and financial).
