This event offers the opportunity to hear the artist talk about his creative process and to see a rich sampling of images from three of his lifelong creative series: Old-Master-influenced still-lives, views of Venice at night, and maximalist color photographs of the Venetian Carnivale. Arkady Lvov is a fine art photographer based in New York. He is an eloquent master of composition and narrative. He is also one of the greatest specialists in the rare technique of platinum printing, the 19th-Century platinum process that was rediscovered in the 1970s after falling into oblivion. This specialized technique is immediately evident in his own photographs - a viewer becomes a witness to the depth, texture, and three-dimensionality of his photographs, with their expressiveness and emotional tension. Born in Odessa, Ukraine, Arkady studied art history at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Russia (then Leningrad) before emigrating to the US in 1979. After earning a BFA at Parsons School of Design, where he was first exposed to platinum, Arkady established his first platinum printing studio in 1990. Today world-renowned photographers such as Annie Leibovitz and Elliot Erwitt rely on his expertise for printing of their works at his current studio, Platinum Editions. Platinum prints can last forever--as long as the paper they are on stays intact. In 1994 he began to travel annually to Venice to photograph the Carnivale. His photographs are in the collections of American Express, the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, The State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and many private collections. Arkady Lvov is represented by Ellipsis Art. You can read an interview with the photographer here.
