Description

The Boxser Diversity Initiative is bringing together some of the leading experts to discuss The Language of Racism & Intolerance at the Mildred Sainer Pavillion, New College of Florida on February 21, 2019 at 6:30pm.

  • Prof. Ladee Hubbard: Recipient of the 2016 Rona Jaffe Foundation Writer's Award for her first novel The Talented Ribkins. She recently won the Zora Neale Hurston-Richard Wright Foundation Legacy Award for Best New Fiction. She holds a BA from Princeton University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Hubbard teaches at Tulane University.
  • Dr. Timothy Patrick McCarthy: Lecturer on History and Literature, Public Policy, and Education at Harvard University, where he is Core Faculty at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy. An award-winning scholar, teacher, and activist, he is the author or editor of five books. He was also a founding member of Barack Obama's National LGBT Advisory Council and former board vice chair for Free the Slaves.
  • Dr. Michael P. Jeffries: Associate Professor of American Studies at Wellesley College. He teaches courses on American popular culture and the politics of race and ethnicity. He is the author of numerous books and his writing appears in both academic and popular outlets. Dr. Jeffries participated in our program last year "The Freedom Riders: Their Relevancy Today" He is back by popular demand.

A Pre-Event Reception will be held from 5:00pm to 6:15pm. A Food Ticket will include: Arepas from the Venezuelan Food Truck plus Skewers and Dumplings from the Asian-Caribbean Food Truck. A Cash Bar will also be available on the site.
