Event Details

Join GreenHomeNYC Saturday, October 13th as we tour the Lexington Lancaster, one of New York's newest, greenest multifamily buildings designed to achieve LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and to exceed the NYSERDA and Enterprise Green Communities guidelines for environmental responsibility.

The Lexington Lancaster is a 29 unit building with 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments with triple glazed windows and unitized venting systems and is estimated to be over 30% more energy efficient than a standard building.

Here are a few of the features you will see on the tour:
  • Heat/HW – Two 750,000 BTU direct vent boilers in a roof top boiler room produce all heat and hot water. Storage tank in boiler room for DHW. Hot water baseboard elements in each room of the apartments
  • Air Conditioning – through wall AC sleeves w/ energy star air conditioner units provided. Rigid, insulated, interior vinyl removable AC covers assist in keeping out a major amount of drafts and conduction losses during the heating season
  • Lighting – energy star fixtures throughout, motion sensors built into all corridor fixtures
  • Appliances – refrigerators, dishwashers, built-in microwaves, and air conditioners all energy star rated
  • Green Roof - A common roof deck is accessed via elevator and stairs with a 30 SF individual garden plot assigned to each apartment

Long-time green developer Steve Bluestone will personally guide the tour. It will be a fantastic opportunity to learn about the latest sustainable building practices here in NYC as well as a good chance to hear first-hand about the development process from one of the best in the biz.

About the NYC Green Buildings Open House

The Green Buildings Open House is GreenhomeNYC’s semi-annual guided tour of green buildings all over New York City, taking place in the Spring and Fall of every year.

The event gives New Yorkers a chance to get inside Green buildings and hear about their inner workings from the owners, architects, and engineers who designed, built and operate them. Visitors will come away with new expectations of comfort, livability, energy and environmental benefits.

Since 2003, GreenHomeNYC has organized the NYC Green Buildings Open House as a part of Northeast Sustainable Energy Associaion’s (NESEA) Green Buildings Open House and the American Solar Energy Society’s (ASES) National Solar Tour.
