Event description

Description

Sexual and Relationship Violence Educator Abigail Sims wrote about THE LADY KILLERS, “Just when you thought you have a handle on the exploitation (in movies), this film upsets the apple cart as it depicts toxic masculinity brought to its ghastly logical conclusion.” As both a filmmaker and as a California state-certified Violence Prevention Specialist, Phil Leirness had grown increasingly concerned with the proliferation of exploitative imagery produced and consumed as entertainment, as diversion. He wanted to make a movie that shows how much misogyny and exploitation drives our cultural conversation and so, THE LADY KILLERS focuses on a high-stakes game of “romantic” conquest gone horribly wrong. The result is what Matt Giles of The Movie Sleuth called "exactly the kind of film we need right now." Seven men, several crimes, violence, murder, mystery, misogyny. It is just a game. It is just a movie. It is just "locker room talk." One night only at Friendship Auditorium. No one under 18 will be admitted. There will be a post-screening discussion with several special guests. Portions of the proceeds will benefit The Los Angeles Breakfast Club and Time's Up.
