J. Rosalynn Smith-Clark. This visionary artist returns to her Pittsburgh roots as a jazz Vocalist to celebrate the singers, past and present, who influenced her career, performing the music of the jazzy, soulful, and classical divas that have provided the “soundtrack” to her life. Her performances have audiences singing along and dancing in the aisles. “Ladies” is a Jazz/Cabaret Style Performance that pays tribute to such great vocalists as Billie Holiday, Mahalia Jackson, Nancy Wilson, Carmen McCrae, Leontyne Price, Phyllis Hyman, and current Neo Soul artists like Jill Scott, with a few surprises thrown in! Multi-faceted performer, J. Rosalynn Smith-Clark takes the audience on a musical journey filled with song, dance, witty banter, and a few unexpected musical turns.
This celebration of the Darker Divas is a journey of joy and celebration that begins with the beautiful music of Duke Ellington written for some of the greatest female voices of that time, and moves on to celebrate great Divas, Funky, and otherwise, up until today’s Hip Hop- Neo Soul Sistahs. Jazz…Gospel…Hip Hop…and even Classical…this “Funky Diva” can do it all.
