Event description
The Kruger Brothers seamlessly blend elements of bluegrass, jazz, and classical music into a sound all their own

About this Event

Drawing on a rich cultural palette, the Kruger Brothers celebrate the best of what music can be: exciting, engaging, intelligent and delightful. In an ever expanding body of work, Jens Kruger (banjo, vocals), Uwe Kruger (guitar, lead vocals) and Joel Landsberg (bass, vocals) personify the spirit and innovation that forms the core of American musical tradition. Originally from Switzerland, now living in North Carolina, brothers Jens and Uwe were first drawn to American folk music after discovering artists such as Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, Bill Monroe, and Lester Flatts. Over the course of two decades, the Kruger Brothers have become a fixture of the folk worl, gaining the attention of the musicians that once served as role models to them. Doc Watson said, “The Kruger Brothers are just about as fine a band as I’ve ever played with.” Happy Traum has described Uwe Kruger as “one of the world’s most musically sophisticated and technically accomplished five-string banjo players.” Steve Martin has described Jens Kruger as “one of the great technicians” of bluegrass as well as “a very expressive player.”

In 2013, Jens Kruger was named the fourth recipient of the Steve Martin Prize for Excel¬lence in Banjo and Bluegrass Music. Jens Kruger has been inducted to the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame, and has been nom¬inated for Banjo Instrumentalist of the year by the International Bluegrass Musician As-sociation (IBMA) in 2014 and has received commissions for his ensemble compositions that include through the National Endowment for the Arts and Chamber Music America.
