About YouthBuild Louisville:
YouthBuild Louisville is a 501(c)(3) offering education, job training and leadership programs designed to help young adults realize their potential, and has been part of the Louisville non-profit community for over 13 years. The program focuses on five areas: education, career vocational training, community service, social services and career development and placement.
“For every dollar invested in a YouthBuild student, there is, at minimum, a $743 return on investment for the community.”
The master plan for the Smoketown campus includes a community orchard, community garden, greenhouse, environmental training center, vocational training center, and on-site classrooms.
The funds raised will send students from YouthBuild Louisville to work with Antoine Jacobsohn (Director) at the Potager du Roi (the kitchen garden started by Louis XIV) at Versailles, France.
The group will learn about the history of scientific food production stemming back to King Louis XIV through Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Upon finishing the two- week “learn by doing” experience, the group will return to Louisville, bringing with them seeds of knowledge to develop their own version of the garden in Smoketown on the YouthBuild Campus.
UrbanGreen is a collaboration between I.D.E.A.S. 40203, YouthBuild Louisville, NYC-based Christian Duvernois (Christian Duvernois Landscape/Garden), Antoine Jacobsohn (Director-Potager du Roi, Versailles, FR), and Isabelle Leroy-Jay Lemaistre (Chief Curator of Sculpture- Musée de Louvre, Paris, FR) - combining food production, science, landscape architecture, art and vocational/ education opportunities into one great project.
