Event description

Description

Ages 5-13 (Please note that due to the intensive nature of our camps, we are unable to accommodate 4-year-olds)

This week will feature Latin America's rich culture of music, song, and dance with returning teacher-artist Andrés Cisneros who is a specialist in Cuban and Afro-Latino rhythms and traditional Latin American music. By assigning each camper a Keys animal of their choice, Andrés will guide them through the week in the process of instrument making and character building by creating a musical play based on Caribbean folktales. On the way, camp friends will have fun with the Spanish language through games, stories, and art. The goal of this workshop is to introduce students to Latin American Folklore through music composition and performance.

About instructor Andrés Cisneros
Andrés was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. He comes from a family of progressive thinkers, artists, educators, and performers. Outside of Venezuela, Andrés has lived, experienced and incorporated diverse elements from the arts and music of the Afro-Caribbean Diaspora, spanning from Puerto Rico, Cuba, and South America. Andrés is a professional musician and teaching artist, specializing in hand percussion. He has studied in Puerto Rico, Morocco, Southern Spain and most recently Cuba. Andrés has also trained in Central/West African and Brazilian drumming styles with renowned professional musicians in New York City, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Boston. Presently, Andrés resides in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, where he continues to teach and perform as a freelance percussionist and vocalist throughout the Northeast region, where he works extensively with children and teenagers.

Camp Details
In addition to registering online we will require a more detailed form for emergency purposes. The ArtCamp! 2017 registration form and Camper Code of Conduct will be available on the first day of camp and must be completed prior to the commencement of camp.
Camp commences at 9:00AM and ends at 4:00PM. Each week the children will enjoy a field trip to a local museum or venue associated with the camp’s theme. To ensure the comfort of your child throughout the day, we have included a list of essentials. Please pack these items in a beach bag that can be left at the camp. The bags will be kept in a designated storage area to which the children will have access. It is important that all items be labelled with your child’s name. Snacks will be provided, however, the children will require a packed lunch. Pizza will be provided on the field trip unless otherwise noted.
