About this event
The Justice Hack – B.C.'s largest access-to-justice hackathon!
Join us in downtown Vancouver for a weekend of fun, learning, and hacking for a good cause. Whether you have a legal background, mad tech skills or lots of great ideas, everyone is encouraged to join us as we re-launch the largest access-to-justice hackathon in British Columbia.
This is our third event, which brings technologists, justice system leaders (including lawyers) and other stakeholders together to share knowledge about access to justice and areas of law, and collaboratively build legal tech solutions that meet needs and make a difference.
What is access to justice?
The idea that everyone, regardless of circumstance, should be able to uphold their rights and access solutions to their legal problems in a way that is timely, cost effective, and fair.
What should I expect?
Join us Saturday, October 25 for a full day that starts with learning sessions with top justice system, legal and legal tech leaders. Participants will form teams and spend most of the day brainstorming and prototyping. Teams have more time to work and refine their presentations, before pitching their legal tech solutions to a panel of judges on Sunday afternoon. (Note: Teams can stay late on Saturday and arrive early on Sunday, but there is no overnight access to the venue.)
Our theme this year is employment and workplace rights — an area of law that is relevant to millions of British Columbians. It's also one of the most common legal problem areas for Canadians. All participants are expected to work on ideas related to the theme. If you don't know much about it, don't worry! We'll share resources and background materials, and have mentors and advisors available to help brainstorm.
You can sign up solo, with a friend or with a team! All participants are encouraged to work on teams of 3-5 people, whether you know each other in advance, or meet at the start of the event. Note: Each participant is required to register.
What's included?
Each ticket includes meals, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages throughout the event. Participants will also receive some swag bags from our sponsors and partners, and winning teams are eligible for prizes — including $1,500 in cash for our top team!
We're a small, volunteer-run team, and the ticket price helps us offset some of our costs, and help avoid no-shows. If the price is a barrier, contact us.
Don't miss this opportunity to be part of a fun weekend dedicated to improving access to justice in B.C.!
