Event description

Description

Each year, we journey through Scripture in the hymns and readings of Holy Week as we experience once again the arrest, trial, and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. And yet, we have forgotten how truly scandalous and abhorrent were the events of Jesus' final day. Join us for this dynamic and eye-opening presentation with biblical scholar Dr. Jeannie Constantinou as she helps us understand who the accusers and orchestrators of Jesus' crucifixion were, why His trial unfolded as it did, and how truly shocking it is for the King of All to die on the Cross for us. This retreat will be an opportunity to deepen your appreciation for Christ's sacrifice and to meaningfully prepare for Holy Week and Pascha.

Dr. Jeannie Constantinou holds a BA in Religious Studies and an MAin Practical Theology from the University of San Diego. She received a ThM from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in 1996 where she specialized in Orthodox Theology and Patristics. She also received a ThM from Harvard Divinity School in 1998 where she specialized in the New Testament. She had also previously earned a JD from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1985 and has been a member of the California Bar since that same year. Dr. Constantinou received her Ph.D. at Université Laval, Quebec City, Canada, in 2007, writing her doctoral dissertation on “Andrew of Caesarea and the Apocalypse in the Ancient Church of the East.”

Dr. Constantinou has been teaching Biblical Studies and Early Christianity at the University of San Diego since 2002. Previously she taught New Testament at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology from 1998-1999.
