About the Author:

A lawyer by training, Emily Paster launched a second career in food writing and social media when she started her website West of the Loop, named a Top Mommy Blog and a “Family Food Blog to Savor." Emily’s first book, Food Swap: Specialty Recipes for Bartering, Sharing and Giving, a cookbook and guide on how to join the food swap movement, came out in May 2016. Emily’s print work on food and entertaining has appeared in Chicago Parent and Allrecipes.

An expert in home food preservation, Emily teaches canning classes and does demonstrations at farmers’ markets, grocery stores, and libraries around Chicago. Emily also appears regularly on Chicago-area television and radio, including WCIU’s “You & Me This Morning,” Fox News’ “Good Day Chicago” and WBEZ’s “The Morning Shift.”
