Take your writing from reality to the fantastic in 3 steps.

The journey is a classic story trope that provides the perfect structuring device and story arc. Join the award-winning Isobelle Carmody as she shows you how to design a journey or quest that connects to the real world and the fantastic. The workshop will feature an impressionist writing session and a discussion on editing as part of the creative process.

This workshop will include:

  • The trope of the journey as a structuring device;

  • Practical techniques for beginning, ending and editing;

  • An impressionist writing session; and

  • How to find the fantastic in reality.

About the Tutor

Isobelle Carmody is a well known Australian author who has written many novels and short stories for children and adults and has a host of award winning novels to her credit. She began the first of her highly acclaimed Obernewtyn Chronicles while she was still at high school and worked on it while completing a Bachelor of Arts and then a journalism cadetship. Obernewtyn was accepted by the first publisher she sent it to and went on to be shortlisted in the "Older Readers" section of the CBC Book of the Year Award.

Isobelle is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Queensland.
