End of day, suggested group dinner in town - Overnight Lecco

The town of Lecco - The main town at the East Bank's southern end with a gently winding waterfront and a pleasant nucleus of pedestrian streets. The city is a key transit hub for trains travelling to Bergamo, Milan or up the east side of the lake along and into the mountains and valleys.

Sunday, May 27; Monday, May 28, Tuesday, May 29
After breakfast, we'll start our expeditions into the mountains east of Lake Como with numerous locations to choose from.  The options will be presented the night before for group discussion and group choice.
Suggested group dinner in town - Overnight Lecco

Lake Como - Set in the shadow of the snow-covered Rhaetian Alps and hemmed in on both sides by steep wooded hills, Lake Como (aka Lake Lario) is the most spectacular of the region's three major lakes. Shaped like an upside-down Y (or an armless wanderer), its winding shoreline is dotted with ancient villages and exquisite villas.  The two 'legs' starting at Como in the South-West and Lecco in the South-East, which join together half way up and the lake continues up to Colico in the North. The first few kilometres of the 'legs' at the southern end of the lake are relatively flat, but Lake Como becomes more mountainous as you head northwards into the Alps. Some of the nearby peaks go slightly above the tree-line so the views are really impressive.

Wednesday, May 30 - Lecco to Vale d'Aosta
After breakfast, we'll determine the best options to hike and/ or rock climb for the day
An easy option exists by hiking along lake shore.
Late afternoon transfer to Vale d'Aosta and overnight in Aosta

Thursday, May 31 and Friday, June 1
After breakfast, we'll start our expedition into the mountains north of Aosta with numerous locations to choose from.  The options will be presented the night before for group discussion and group choice; there are over 120 sport climbing areas within the Aosta Valley.
Group dinner at the chalet - Overnight Aosta

Vale d'Aosta - Aosta Valley
Jagged Alpine peaks rise like marble cathedrals above the regional capital Aosta, a once-important Roman settlement that retains a charming historic centre, while also sprawling rather untidily across the valley floor. Bounced around between Burgundy (France) and Savoy (Italy) in the Middle Ages, the modern town remains bilingual, with a Valdostan culture that can be heard in its musical local dialect and simple but hearty cuisine: The Aosta Valley (Val d'Aosta) (officially known as Regione Autonoma Valle d'Aosta - Région Autonome Vallée d'Aoste) is the Italian region in the Alps where there are the highest mountains in Europe, including Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa and Gran Paradiso. Aosta Valley, which is the smallest of all Italian regions, lies in the northwest of the country. It is formed by a central valley with the Dora Baltea river running through it and by 13 side valleys carved out by glaciers and torrents. Protected areas account for almost a third of the region, in order to safeguard biodioversity, and Valle d’Aosta is home to two natural parks: the Gran Paradiso National Park and the Mont Avic Regional Park. Known all over the world for the major climbing routes that have made mountaineering history, for its trekking itineraries and international-level ski resorts, Valle d’Aosta boasts an outstanding historical, cultural and artistic heritage, with Roman monuments, medieval castles and Romanesque churches, as well as top-quality DOC-label wines and speciality foods. From ancient times, Valle d’Aosta has been an important crossroads of the Western Alps, and is today linked with France through the Mont Blanc Tunnel and the Little St. Bernard Pass, and with Switzerland through the Great St. Bernard Pass and Tunnel.
