The Shi'a Ismaili Centre in Burnaby (ICB) designed by Bruno Freschi, is a synthesis of traditional Islamic architectural principles and modern construction techniques. From reports of people who have visited the Centre, we can assure you a most memorable day. The Centre, inaugurated in 1985, is one of BC’s best kept architectural secrets.

Meet at 8:00- 8.15a.m.  At Swartz Bay Terminal to depart as foot passengers on the 9 a.m. to Tsawwassen.

Please dress casual and comfortable for the weather.

8:15ish a.m. Park at Swartz Bay Terminal and purchase a walk-on passenger ticket and meet our group at the entrance of the foot passenger lounge. We will conduct a final count, and distribute name badges before we board the ferry. At the end of the crossing, disembark as foot passengers at Tsawwassen terminal and meet at the exit.

10.45 a.m. at Tsawwassen  where we will board our bus provided by  The Ismaili Council of BC, which will take us to The Ismaili Centre Burnaby 4010 Canada Way, Burnaby, BC

If you are joining us at the Ismaili Centre Burnaby (ICB) (4010 Canada Way, Burnaby),  please meet us in the courtyard at 11.30am, wait for our bus to arrive and join our group.  

11:30 a.m.  We are welcomed at the Centre's Courtyard Garden by a "Volunteer tour guide Aly Sunderji"

12.00-12.45 Tour the administration level & the Council Chambers   

12:45-2.30 p.m. Lunch will be provided by Zahir & Shahenas Dossa of Raymond James & Victoria Heart Pharmacy IDA. 

 from 1.15 -1.30 pm Neda Shadbakht, who is the Regional Engagement Associate, Agakhan Foundation Canada, will share Slides and Video showing the work of the World Partrnership Walk in Victoria and Vancouver.  ( WPW is held in 10 cities in Canada)

Key note speaker :

from 1.30 to 2.30 pm Dr Omar Kassam DDS (Volunteer) who is a Rumi & Islamic Scholar will speak on his PASSION and an overview of the Ismaili Muslim Community in Canada.

2.30- 3.15 Tour the Social Hall and Visit Loggia and The Prayer Hall ( the highlight of the TOUR)

At 3.15pm we depart for Tsawwassen for the 5 pm ferry to Swartz Bay.

Bus transportation from Tsawassen to Burnaby & back is provided by the Ismaili Council of BC.

Naz Rayani

Naz Rayani was born in Kisumu, Kenya. Naz owns Victoria Heart Compounding Pharmacies located in Cadboro Bay Village, Fairfield Plaza, the UVic SUB and Shelbourne Plaza and recently acquired St Anthonys Pharmacy in Langford. He has been recognized for his community service by varies organizations including RCMP, the Colwood and Victoria Chambers of Commerce, the University of Victoria, and in 2006 the Order of Canada.

Working to improve living conditions in Third World countries is a cornerstone issue that Naz holds closest to his "HEART". The main focal point for his efforts is the "World Partnership Walk, which is held in Victoria on the last Sunday in May at UVic.

A devout Ismaili Muslim, Naz has worked tirelessly to break down barriers among people of different faiths. He has worked to broaden community support for the Centre for Studies in Religion and Society at the University of Victoria. Naz has also participated in learning about other faiths and has been involved with Christ Church Cathedral, St. George's Parish and Cadboro Bay United Church & other Temples, Synagogues for many years.
