Event description
Stanislao Pugliese, Professor of History will discuss his new book as well as the dilemmas and paradoxes of Italian American history.

About this Event

Stanislao Pugliese, Professor of History and the Queensboro Unico Distinguished Professor of Italian & Italian American Studies at Hofstra University, will present his newest book The Routledge History of Italian Americans, co-edited with William J. Connell. As controversy and debate rage over the statue of Columbus in New York City and the fate of Columbus Day generally, it is necessary that Italian Americans confront the dilemmas and paradoxes of Italian American history. Columbus has become a prism through which much of Italian American history is refracted and often times distorted. As the latest controversy plays out, this lecture is an attempt to unravel the stereotypes and ask questions about how we construct both our past and future. Refreshments will be served.

Sponsored by the Italian Charities of America.

Admission: free; open to the public, donations accepted. Event will be held on the 2nd Floor, wheelchair and handicap accessible.
