Mindset Matters: Resilience, Confidence & Reflective Practice for Interpreters

How we think shapes how we interpret.
This reflective, down-to-earth session explores the mental and emotional side of interpreting – where mindset meets performance. Designed for sign language interpreters at any stage of their career, the session offers practical tools and space to reflect on how our thoughts, patterns, and self-perceptions can support or undermine our work.

Together, we’ll look at ways to manage feedback, maintain healthy boundaries, and handle the pressure that often comes with the job. We’ll explore themes like imposter syndrome, perfectionism, and all-or-nothing thinking – and how they show up in our day-to-day interpreting practice.

You’ll leave with a practical mindset toolkit to help boost your resilience, confidence, and long-term sustainability in this demanding and rewarding profession.

What You’ll Learn

  • How mindset influences interpreting performance, professional boundaries, and reactions to feedback
  • How cognitive patterns like imposter syndrome and perfectionism affect wellbeing
  • Practical mindset strategies to manage performance pressure and build confidence
  • Reflective techniques to support long-term professional sustainability
