The Interactive Pasts Conference Online 2
Date and time
Location
Online event
The conference centres around videogames and the past, with interesting speakers including game developers and a variety of scholars.
About this event
TIPC is a place where diverse people and ideas get together, centered around video games and the past. We welcome researchers, game developers, scholars, students, gamers, artists and everyone who is curious to learn more about archaeology, history, game development, game studies and the interactive past!
How do we create games and histories that are accessible, diverse, and fun? What can games teach us about the past? How are video games cultural heritage and is heritage and history a game? What do video games and the past have to offer each other?
Who?
We have a wonderful line up of speakers, including game developers like Jon Ingold (Inkle Studios) and Leyla Johnson (Mohawk Games) and game, archaeology, history, and heritage scholars from a variety of disciplines, backgrounds, and stages of their career! Some of the games we will delve into includePokémon, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Sid Meier's Civilization, Hearts of Iron IV, the Elder Scrolls Online and many, many more!
When?
From 10:00-17:00 CET on 5 and 6 November.
(We are currently looking at options to rerun the conference during the weekend for those of you who want to catch it later and of course, talks will be made available via our YouTube channel)
The schedule is on the bottom of this page!
Where to find us?
You can watch and chat along via our very own Twitch channel at twitch.tv/valuefnd, but for the full interactive conference experience (including the option to ask questions of our speakers with the power of your own voice) we will use our very own discord.
Sounds cool! Am I invited?
We welcome researchers, game developers, scholars, students, gamers, artists and everyone who is curious to learn more about archaeology, history, game development, game studies and the interactive past!
We never charged for our conferences or events and are not to start selling you any kind of digital premium now!
For Whom?
As we say above, we will not charge for this conference, but if you have funds to spare, we would mightily appreciate it if you could support Games[4Diversity]!
Games[4Diversity] contributes to the representation of socio-cultural minorities in games by organizing events nationally and internationally, thereby facilitating a dialogue between game developers and players to stimulate them to create more diverse games and characters. Additionally, Games[4Diversity] boosts the visibility of minority game developers themselves, because they strive for a diverse and colourful game industry!
Find more info on how to support them here.
With Whom?
The Interactive Past Conference Online-2 is a collaboration between the VALUE Foundation and The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision.
