Description

Welcome to our Family Enterprise Day registration page !

The INSEAD Wendel International Centre for Family Enterprise (WICFE) invites you to join us for a half-day conference where the insights of the just published INSEAD report The Institutionalization of Family Firms – from Asia Pacific to the Middle East will be presented. Findings will be presented alongside the team from INSEAD’s Global Private Equity Initiative (GPEI), who partnered on this study.

As family firms account for 70% of GDP in the global economy and 60% of global employment, the importance of long-term value creation extends beyond individual families – it is among the main drivers of economic growth and business innovation, as well as livelihoods.

An entrepreneurial spirit and close relationships are key elements at the start of a family’s journey. Initial success typically relies on one or two individuals with a vision for a new business, the energy to execute, and the determination to persevere. However, as a family firm matures and transitions to the second and third generations (and beyond), introducing formal policies and procedures to institutionalize the firm’s mission and values is critical to preserve its competitive advantage and enable sustainable growth over the generations.

To understand how families in emerging markets approach these topics, INSEAD surveyed 123 family firms in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East to measure their level institutionalization across six key attributes: family ownership and succession, intangible family assets, corporate governance and leadership, growth capabilities, organizational design, and access to capital.

This report sheds light on how institutionalizing aspects of a family firm can help ensure its long-term health and survival.

A panel of leading experts and practitioners from the business community and academia will open the floor to a discussion of the lessons to be learned from this report.

What are some of the questions to be discussed?

What is a family business? What are their key differentiating factors? Why focus on institutionalization? What role can private equity firms play in the institutionalization process?

How can private equity help family businesses professionalize? What are the practical steps that all family firms can take to improve their performance?

The event is designed for members of family businesses, INSEAD students, FBN members, and YPO member families. Third parties who are directly involved in providing services to family enterprises are welcome to attend, accompanied by a member of a family business to ensure an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality.

We welcome all registered participants for what promises to be a wonderful and impactful moment of learning and exchange!
