In this workshop participants will be afforded the opportunity to explore and articulate the mental models which inform their understanding of assessment, how assessment for, of and as learning impacts on how students learn and how best to engage with them.
Participants will explore assessment methodologies and will examine the possibilities of incorporating some of them into their own teaching with a view to enhancing the learning that occurs.The methodologies will focus on student engagement and motivation through use of assessment for, as and of learning techniques to promote more effective teaching.
Effective assessment is critical to establishing shared expectations between teacher and student. Ineffective assessment is often rooted in problems associated with fixed mindsets. The seminar will focus on sharing assessment methodologies and on ways to promote a growth mindset in both student and teacher.
The seminar will be a combination of lecture, demonstration and workshop.
1.Have a deeper understanding of the difference between assessment for learning, assessment of learning and
assessment as learning.
2. Consider the mental models which shape their beliefs about assessment.
3. Explore a range of assessment methodologies and examine how, at least, one of, these could be used in their own classroom.
4. Examine and design assessment tools such as rubrics, anticipation sheets, KWL’s which they can use in their classrooms.
