NCABR is partnering with the Wake Forest School of Medicine Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the Center for Vaccines at the Extremes of Aging and Brenner Children's Hospital to present an Rx for Science Literacy workshop, titled The Importance of Vaccines: From Laboratory to Clinic. This one-day workshop will be held Tuesday, July 30, from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Wake Forest Biotech Place in Winston-Salem, N.C. 

This workshop will feature an overview of NCABR’s vaccine curriculum plus updates from biomedical scientists and physicians about the real-world applications of vaccine research underway at the Wake Forest School of Medicine.  

In this engaging, informative and timely workshop, participants will learn about the critical role that vaccines play in protecting the health and well-being of North Carolinians and citizens across the globe. Participants will learn about current research and issues that impact vaccine development and distribution. 
 
The workshop also will address:

  • Vaccine fundamentals: what they are, what they do and why they are so important
  • Vaccine facts vs. fiction
  • Vaccine research highlights from the Wake Forest School of Medicine, including new technologies in vaccine development

Incentives for attending this Rx for Science Literacy workshop include:

  • 1 unit of certification renewal credit for North Carolina-certified educators (4 hours of additional work required)
  • Free supplemental curriculum and other bioscience education materials to use in the classroom, including a free copy of the Rx for Science Literacy curriculum manual
  • Free lunch
  • Substitute teacher support (up to $80)

This workshop is most applicable to high school teachers and those teaching advanced middle school students.
