Event Details

This presentation examines early literacy and how childcare providers can maximize the learning environment and increase learning experiences for children in their care. It is recognized by the Department of Human Services through Child and Adult Care Licensing as appropriate training for childcare providers in the state of Tennessee.  All attendees will receive a training certificate that is recognized by the licensing office.

Understand the importance of early literacy development

Understand the process of reading

Reflect on current practices and make appropriate adjustments

What does a "good reading brain" look like?

How can I support literacy development in children?

How can I improve the literacy environment in my facility?

SPECS & In the Beginning Literacy Company

The mission of In the Beginning Literacy Company is to provide educational services and professional development in early literacy.  ITB seeks to inform and support the community and local organizations in the area of early literacy.

Shaneena Rolfe is the founder of In the Beginning Literacy Company.  She holds a Master’s Degree in Education and is currently pursuing an Education Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.  She is a former classroom teacher and instructional literacy coach.   Shaneena has served in other educational capacities including Learning Coach, Student Teacher Supervisor, Tutor, District Facilitator, and Regional Content Coach for the Tennessee Department of Education.

ITB is an affiliate of the non-profit organization, SPECS (Socially, Physically, Economically, Culturally, and Spiritually).
