Description

Refreshments will be served and a brief panel discussion of students, academics and practitioners will be held before the film.

The film was produced and directed by Sheena Ong, graduate of engineering from the University of Western Australia. This is a direct quote and welcome from Sheena:
"I have recently completed a project that I believe will be of interest to Colorado School of Mines. My project was to produce a documentary on the topic of "humanitarian engineering". My documentary, entitled The Humanitarian Engineer, is about the impact that engineers have on society and the meaning of the term "humanitarian engineer". It explores the concepts of what makes someone a humanitarian, how engineers address disadvantage through their work, and how engineers contribute more generally to society. I believe that may be interested in my documentary for several reasons. Many of your members are engineers, and my documentary speaks directly to them by inviting them to consider the impact that their work makes on society. Engineers contribute to society in a great many ways, yet their social impact is often not recognised, let alone celebrated. My documentary affirms the significance of engineers, encouraging them to take pride in their work because the end beneficiary is humanity: future generations."
This event is a collaboration between Engineers Without Borders/Bridges to Prosperity and the Humanitarian Engineering Program.
