about THE HORSE BOY
How Far Would You Travel To Heal Someone You Love?
In 2007, Rupert Isaacson took his five year old autistic son Rowan on a life-changing journey across Mongolia, travelling on horseback from traditional healer to traditional healer - which resulted in the 2009 bestselling book and PBS documentary of the same name: The Horse Boy.
Join us for a pre-film reception at 6:00pm and we will show that film at 7 on Friday February 8th at the Variety Screening Room in San Francisco. We are thrilled to follow the film with Rupert there to do a Q and A. Come meet him!
Rupert now runs The Horse Boy Foundation, whose New Trails Ranch, just east of Austin, Texas, serves local autism families free of charge with their internationally renowned Horse Boy Method, which helps autistic kids gain direct communication through horses, nature, wilderness and learning through movement.
After the screening, Rupert will talk about his journey and read from both The Horse Boy book and also The Healing Land, which tells the story of his life with the Bushmen of the Kalahari in Southern Africa and how he became drawn into both their human rights struggles and their systems of traditional healing - which paved the way for The Horse Boy.
Whether you are interested in travel and adventure, wilderness and its healing power, shamanism, autism, horses, or are just plain curious about how, when life hands you lemons, you make margeritas, this film is for you!
We will also have joining us, Joell Dunlap, Founder of Square Peg Foundation a theraputic ranch in Half Moon Bay, CA. She will share with us how she and her team work with families and their children with Autism to turn "I wish, into I can!" Learn more about her program, how you can volunteer & participate and how she uses the Horse Boy Method in her theraputic approach.
Special thanks to our evening's hosts Variety Children's Charity of Northern California!
