The Homestead 40th Anniversary Reunion
Fri, Jun 2, 2017, 12:00 PM – Sun, Jun 4, 2017, 6:00 PM EDT
Dear Denison Homesteaders,
We welcome you to join us this June to reconnect, rejuvenate, and reminisce. We will be working on several projects, in addition to cooking and jamming, of course! This falls on Denison's annual Reunion Weekend, and a featured Alumni College program is centered around the Homestead's 40 years.
This year we will focus on the following projects:
Rosa multiflora: Many acres of the Homestead property have been co-opted by invasive species Multiflora Rose that produces prickly thickets that crowd out native plants and make our woodlot impenetrable. With your help, we will establish a perimeter around the Homestead proper to protect it from Multiflora’s aggressive advances!
Trees: In Multiflora’s stead, we will plant White Pines and other species.
Our dear chicken coop is run down, and our hens need a stable abode. We will construct a new chick cabin.
Continuity and knowledge sharing are cornerstones of the Homestead, and we'd like to further these by recording your voices and stories. We will set up a storytelling booth, and you will be free to record a conversation among yourself and a few Homies. We will assemble these stories for the Homestead Archives and submit them to the Library of Congress via Story Corps.
So register today, and be sure to bring your machete, hammer, and a pocket full of memories! See you soon.
