Event description

Take a stroll on top of New York City's first aqueduct with a chance to access the private grounds of one of the world's most incredible (and unusual) houses.

Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive three-mile guided stroll, tour, & exploration through the historic mansions, estates, and landmarks along portions of the Old Croton Aqueduct, New York City’s first water supply system built between 1837 and 1842.

Led by a member of the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct, our stroll through the village of Irvington will include:

  • A brief discussion around the Croton Aqueduct and its importance to the growth of NYC
  • Stops along the trail to point out historic sites & structures including the Nevis Estate (former estate of Alexander Hamilton’s son) and aqueduct ventilators
  • Rare access on to the private grounds of the Armour–Stiner "Octagon" House to see the modern-day dollhouse from up close
  • A chance to go inside the gold-leafed Tiffany Reading Room in downtown Irvington, which is usually closed on weekends

While the stroll will officially end in downtown Irvington, you may join the guide for an extended walk through parts of Tarrytown to see Villa Lewaro (the former estate of America’s first black female millionaire) and Lyndhurst Mansion.
