Event description

Take a stroll on top of New York City's first aqueduct with a chance to access the private grounds of one of the world's most incredible (and unusual) houses.

Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive three-mile guided stroll, tour, & exploration through the historic mansions, estates, and landmarks along portions of the Old Croton Aqueduct, New York City’s first water supply system built between 1837 and 1842.

Led by a member of the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct, our stroll through the villages of Ardsley-on-Hudson, Irvington, and Tarrytown, will include:

  • A brief discussion around the Croton Aqueduct and its importance to the growth of NYC
  • Stops along the trail to point out the Nevis Estate (former estate of Alexander Hamilton’s son), Villa Lewaro (former estate of America’s first black female millionaire), Lyndhurst Mansion, and the aqueduct ventilators
  • Rare access onto the private grounds of the Armour–Stiner "Octagon" House to see the modern-day dollhouse from up close
  • A chance to step inside the gold-leafed Tiffany Reading Room, which is usually closed on weekends

This relatively flat walk should take around 3-4 hours, so please bring comfortable shoes, water, and snacks.

Food, drinks, and restrooms can be found in the town of Irvington, our mid-point and final destination on the walk.
