Event description
You Have Probably Seen Her. She is everywhere. In temples and airports, offices and vintage markets. Even at the St. Louis Art Museum!

About this Event

Who is she? Where did she come from? Why has she endured?

In China, she is called Kuan Yin, the divine healing Presence of the Heart. So beloved by the Chinese people, over four centuries the 4th-8th, they wrote poetry in her honor.

Of these, only 100 Verses were chosen to be passed down through the generations.

In modern times, vessels that hold bamboo sticks can be found throughout the Orient. Each stick is numbered and there are always a total of one hundred. These represent Kuan Yin's verses. When people want to feel connected to the divine feminine quality, they pull one of the sticks and read that verse as the answer to their heartfelt prayer.

On November 30th, you can experience all of them in one evening.

During this experiential presentation, participants will create their own set of divining sticks as the 100 Verses are read. Each participant will also receive a copy of the presenter's book The TARAKA YOGA of KUAN YIN which includes translations of the verses in the symbolic language of dreamtime.

Author and dream scholar Barbara Condron brings to life the history and romance of Kuan Yin through three legends. These stories convey how Kuan Yin came to symbolize the goddess of love and mercy for millions of people. A beautiful way to celebrate this season of thanksgiving and compassion.

Book and materials are included in the ticket price. Early registration is encouraged as seating space is limited to two dozen for this event.

...a note from the presenter....

In 1993, it was serendipity that allowed me to stand 3 feet from HH the Dalai Lama at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago.  That experience with the individual who so many honor as a living Buddha and world teacher, was transformative.  In my innocence, I really had no idea who Tenzin Gyatso was, his story, his challenges and struggles, but I promised myself then, I would learn.  Seven more intentional crossing of paths with the Dalai Lama naturally brought Kuan Yin into my daily meditations.

In 2011, I sensed a calling to interpret the verses in the language of the mind, the symbolic language of our dreams that I have studied and taught since 1975.  My work unites the best of traditions around the world and I stand on the shoulders of pioneers like Freud, Jung, and Campbell.  I studied five Chinese to English translations to do my work of translating into the language of mind, images.  The results are recorded in a book I wrote under the pen name Gael O'Guinn.  It is called The Taraka Yoga of Kuan Yin.

On November 30th, we will dive into Hsiang - the Chinese concept of “Mutual Arising” that captures the relationship in the Gautama’s teaching of the Bodhisattva.  We’ll experience an exercise in connectedness that I’ve conducted with groups of people for 20 years called The Unified Field.

Then we will dive deeper as each quatrain is read in your presence, for your heart to hear.  An illuminating experience of silent reflection.

We close the evening by choosing a verse from the sticks you have made with your thoughts, by your own hands.

I hope you can join me.
