Event description

Description

Emotional intelligence is inextricably tied to cognition, achievement and well-being. This presentation will provide educators and parents with a variety of evidence-based strategies and tools to cultivate the development of discrete emotional skills in gifted learners. Learn ways to avoid the pitfalls of perfectionism, develop optimism, engage intrinsic motivation and enhance emotional literacy while growing healthy relationships. All will leave empowered with practices to support student social and emotional development in school and at home.

Speaker Bio - Dr. Kate Bachtel

Dr. Kate's research explores what diverse gifted K-8 students need to thrive. Last month, Nova Science published her chapter, Emotional Skill Gaps Contributing to Underachievement, in a text on high ability learners. Previously, Kate was a gifted education advisor in BVSD and co-led the opening of Mackintosh Academy's Boulder campus. When she resigned to launch SoulSpark Learning, pursue a doctorate and accept an invitation to serve on the board of directors at SENG, one of her measures of success was realizing 100% family retention. The professional learning she developed at SoulSpark to increase emotional intelligence and achievement will be featured in an article to be published later this year. As a parent (incoming and current high school students), daughter of educators, educator coach and nonprofit board leader who speaks at events across the country, Kate has had opportunities to see the complexities of education systems from a variety of perspectives.
