The Hawker Sessions: 03
Date and time
Description
It’s simple: We approach a local charity, identify a family in need, and pick a supportive hawker centre. We keep the identity of the family anonymous while preserving the truth of their story.
The Hawker Sessions unites the community for a night of good food, cold brews, fun games and great company – in a different setting, and for a greater purpose.
At each Hawker Session, we aim to raise a targeted amount that will help a local family (or families) with their immediate needs and maximise the impact of a one-time donation, which we hope will make a difference for a lifetime.
Our partner charity helps to ensure that the proceeds are used for the intended purposes.

THE THIRD HAWKER SESSION
Date: 23 August, Friday
Time: 7.30PM - 10PM
Venue:
83 Seng Poh Road Singapore
TARGET FOR THIS SESSION:
Raise S$3,133.75 for two needy patients, Mr. C. and Mdm. M.
Following the success of Hawker Sessions 01 & 02, we're gearing up for our third session, once again working with the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Community Charity Fund.
This time, we want to help two needy patients and their families. Bring your friends and family, and let's work together to make this a success for Mr. C. and Mdm. M!
HOW IT WORKS
How you can support The Hawker Sessions (and more importantly, Mr. C. and Mdm. M.):
- Come for the event! Bring your friends and family.
- At the event, for every dish/drink you order, simply drop some extra money into our collection jars.
- We'll also be auctioning goodies from our generous sponsors to raise funds. Bid generously.
- Spread the word. Tell colleagues, and share this event link on Facebook. Whether or not you can personally come, help us reach S$3,133.75 in one evening.
Can't make it for the event? Not a problem. Here's how you can join the effort:
1. Donate online at SG Gives: Under the 'Special Occasion' box, type "Mr. C. and Mdm. M."
2. Donate by cheque: We accept cheques addressed to: Tan Tock Seng Hospital Community Charity Fund. Get in touch with us via our Facebook page or eat@thehawkersessions.com, and we can pick up the cheque from you at a central location.
Please write, "For Mr. C. and Mdm. M" on the back, along with your full name, NRIC/FIN No., your contact no., and your address.
RECIPIENT #1: Mr. C.
Target amount: S$1,570.00
- Bilateral moderately severe hearing loss (both ears)
What we aim to raise funds for:
- Hearing aid - S$1,570
Mr C has very little family support as he has strained relationships with his children. He shares a rented 1-room flat with another tenant and receives a monthly contribution of $150 from his daughter.
Mr C depends on free food and toiletries rations from a Senior Activity Centre and lives frugally on his allowance from his daughter. Now with moderately severe hearing loss in both ears, Mr C faces isolation as he has difficulty in communicating and interacting with others.
With Mr C’s financial and family situation, a hearing aid is out of his reach. However, a hearing aid would greatly enhance his quality of life, enabling him to once again communicate with others. A hearing aid will also make life easier and safer for Mr C, who is very much on his own and without family support.

RECIPIENT #2: Mdm. M.
Target amount: S$1,563.75
- Osteomyelitis – infection of bone or bone marrow
- Severe Sepsis – inflammation as a result of pneumonia and foot ulcers.
- Bedbound, fully dependant
- Currently recovering from Pneumonia
What we aim to raise funds for:
- Oral supplements - S$861.75
- Wound dressings - S$702
Total: $1,563.75
Elderly Mdm M is a resident of Lions Nursing Home as she requires continuous care and also assistance with her daily needs.
While Mdm M’s children are supportive and care for their mother, they are facing financial difficulties with the rising medical costs which are not covered by Medifund or insurance schemes.
Mdm M’s son works as a salesman and pays for the nursing home fees of $400/ month. Her daughter is a freelance bus conductor and takes home only $100/ month.
As a result of being bedbound, Mdm M has developed pressure ulcers on her legs and requires dressing changes every 3 days. Mdm M is also unable to chew and requires supervised feeding. As such, liquid oral supplements are recommended to ensure that she gets the nutrition she needs. However, such feeds and consumables are not covered by Medifund, and amounts to substantial out-of-pocket expenses which Mdm M’s children could not afford.

As such, we aim to raise a total of S$3,133.75 to help these two individuals under the Tan Tock Seng Hospital Community Charity Fund (TTSHCCF). We invite you to join us for an evening of great food, community, and a chance to give back!
All funds will be collected in sealed donation tins provided by the TTSHCCF, who will dispense the funds for the specified uses to Mr. C. and Mdm. M.
The Hawker Sessions team does not have any contact with Mr. C. and Mdm. M. Out of respect, their identifies will remain anonymous.
If we raise more than the targeted sum, the extra will be donated to more needy patients under TTSHCCF.
MORE ABOUT THE HAWKER SESSIONS & OUR SPONSORS
HOW IT BEGAN
The Hawker Sessions was conceived by one of the winning teams at the first Worldwide Feast Singapore. We realized that Friday nights in Singapore are seen by many as a night to unwind, eat, drink, and catch up with friends. So we thought, why not continue this tradition, but at a hawker centre where the money saved on expensive cocktails and spirits could then be put toward something meaningful like helping a local family in need?
WHO WE ARE
The team behind The Hawker Sessions is a melting pot of newcomers to the city and long-time residents, who believe giving should be simple, transparent and enjoyable for everyone. Singapore’s unique blend of locals and expats is something we look to replicate in our Sessions, to foster a community that is diverse and inclusive. Get in touch with us via our Facebook page or email us at eat@thehawkersessions.com.
