The Happy Interpreter: Self Care In and Outside of the Interpreted Encounte...
Fri, December 8, 2017, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM EST
Interpreters feel the stresses of their everyday interpreting practice, but may not understand the negative impact that stress has on the quality of interpreting, and their quality of life outside the interpreted encounter. Freelance and subcontracted interpreters may feel especially isolated without colleagues to lean on for support and advice. This workshop will guide participants through small and large group discussions on causes of stress and how to manage stress in and outside of work while at the same time observing confidentiality. This workshop is appropriate for all foreign languages and all skill levels. Legal interpreters are also welcome to attend.
Name common scenarios that present challenges for interpreters
Define how these scenarios negatively affect interpreting quality
Define how these scenarios negatively affect the interpreter outside of work
Participants share strategies for self care inside and outside work, with a focus on confidentiality.
This workshop is approved for CEUs through the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters' Continuing Education Approval Program (CEAP). Each participant receives a certificate of attendance.
