Event description

Over 100,000 people from over 500 companies have applied these techniques to create over 1 Million new healthy habits, resulting in (on average):

  • 83% success rate in habituating healthy habits (of their own choosing)

  • Double the weight loss vs. a control group, after 1 year

  • 1-2 points BMI improvement after 1 year

  • 69 extra minutes of daily productivity

  • 190% return-on-investment (vs. -50% ROI for traditional lifestyle wellness programs)*

Why is it so hard to change our behavior? Why do we find it difficult to exercise, eat better, be more mindful, quit smoking, or to be a better spouse or parent?

Because, despite the common wisdom, it doesn’t take just 21 days to form a habit. Research tells us it can take at least 66 days to form the kind of habits that really matter. But, no matter how motivated we are, 80% of us still give up on our resolutions after just six weeks.

Despite the pop psychology you may have read, there's no clinical evidence that habits rely on extraordinary willpower, motivation, or moral character. Fitness wearables, challenges, tracking, or gamification also definitely do NOT create lasting habits either for most people (e.g., Apple Watch, Fitbit, et al.).

So what’s the answer? Learn how to master the force of habit!

Designed and clinically validated by licensed, certified, and published clinical psychologists from Yale, the University of Washington, and Kaiser Permanente Research Institute, this patent-pending training course will train you to apply proven cognitive behavioral techniques to create new, automatic, habitual routines for yourself and your clients.

Through a combination of short videos, exercises, and personalized, clinically-directed coaching, the course will present a synopsis of the best clinically tested, evidence-based behavior change research, distilled via easy-to-use, practical diagnostic tools. By the end of the course, students will know how to incorporate and, more importantly, sustain important new habits in their day-to-day lives and the lives of their clients.

This course is a pre-requisite for those interested in becoming certified Habit Design® Trainer-Affiliates and is qualified for CE credit (e.g., CHES, MCHES, ACSM, et al.). Feel free to contact us for more details.

This is the first time this training has been made available online. Enrollment is limited in each cohort to ensure a high level of one-on-one training quality. Every cohort has sold out thus far, so RSVP quickly.

  • START WHEN YOU WANT: There's no pre-determined start date, just choose any day you want to begin within 30 days of your registration.

  • SELF-PACED SESSIONS: You'll progress through 6 tutorials, each including a short video and brief online survey, emailed to you incrementally based on your pace. Each session builds on the previous session, so you'll want to complete each session's survey before progressing to the next one. How long it takes to complete each tutorial is up to you, but it each one takes just 30-60 minutes. Once successfully completing each tutorial survey, you'll receive feedback from our clinical team (see below), then proceed to the next tutorial. On average, past trainees have completed the entire course in 4-6 weeks.

  • PERSONALIZED FEEDBACK BY LICENSED AND CERTIFIED CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGISTS (EQUIVALENT TO 12 CLINICAL HOURS): After receiving your survey response to each tutorial, our clinical team will provide personalized feedback via email within 2-3 business days. You may be asked to revise your survey response afterwards before progressing to the next session. This is equivalent to roughly 12 clinical hours or a $1,800 value just on its own.

  • LIVE, PERSONALIZED GROUP COACHING: Each Wednesday at Noon Pacific join a live Q&A interactive Web conference, moderated by Michael Kim, Founder & CEO of Habit Design, and the Habit Design clinical research team. Share any issues, challenges, or questions in person with leading clinical experts in the field of habit formation. International participants may request to reschedule their group coaching sessions to a more mutually convenient time (contact us below for more info).

  • LIVE, ONE-ON-ONE TELE-COACHING: After completing the video tutorials & surveys, you'll receive 2 weeks (10 weekdays) of personalized tele-coaching support via SMS/Text with a licensed, and certified clinical psychologist (available 9 AM - 5 PM Pacific for domestic U.S. participants only). This alone is a $1,000 value.

  • CURRICULUM MATERIALS: You'll receive access to all course materials, e.g., worksheets, slides, videos, etc. (for personal, non-commercial use only).

  • "This should be required training for anyone in healthcare, corporate wellness, coaching, or behavior change." - The American Journal of Health Promotion

  • "I've tried so many self-improvement programs, but none of them stuck beyond a month. This is the only program where I was successful in making lasting habits, and I'm still doing them everyday a whole year later! Not to mention, I've lost over 40 pounds and gotten off my blood pressure medication." - Kristin A., Trainee

  • "I was skeptical at first, but I saw such quick results that I was amazed I hadn't realized it sooner: Habits are a discipline that require real-time feedback and coaching. My trainer always had just the right suggestion for the issue I was facing that day." - Doug S., Trainee

  • "I never ran before in my life, but now after applying my Habit Design training, I'm about to run my first marathon!" - Richard O., Trainee

  • "After including Habit Design into my health coaching, I saw a 73% increase in client signups and 69% increase in their engagement with their health routines. This definitely led to my business growing 91% in revenue in just 1 year." - Marla S., Health Coach

  • "My clients saw such a dramatic improvement in their daily performance which led them to become more confident and excited about my training." - Sam J., Wellness Coach

"How is this training different than others in this space?"

1) It's evidence-based and clinically validated, developed, directed, and supported by licensed, certified, published, clinical psychologists;

2) It's efficacy is scientifically deterministic (a fancy way of saying "success is statistically predictable based on pre-determined factors") vs. non-deterministic (a.k.a. "unpredictable");

3) Our clinically validated 83% success rate in creating new, daily unconscious behaviors is the highest in the industry (vs. others who define success as whether you simply participated or responded to emails); You can refer to our published article in The American Journal of Health Promotion.

4) We've trained the most, so we've learned the most: Over 100,000 trainees from over 500 organizations/companies have applied Habit Design training to create over 1 Million new, daily habits.

"Why can't I just pick this up in a book or one of the many free self-improvement guru websites?"

Unfortunately, there's a tremendous amount of incorrect, simplistic, and outright misleading claims in pop psychology, especially related to "habits". Most of these sources are not licensed, certified, and published clinicians. 62% of our trainees come to us having had disappointing experiences from these kinds of pop psychology sources. You get what you pay for.

Our Habit Design® techniques are not available from any books, websites, videos, or self-improvement gurus, but have been carefully clinically validated over ten years, published in peer-reviewed journals, and previously made available only to our corporate clients.

"Why haven't I heard of you before?"

Well, we only just coined the term and discipline of "Habit Design" a few years ago, but it's quickly become a mainstream meme within the behavior change community; just Google the keyword "Habit Design" and see.

We've actually been covered by dozens of publications (see a selection on our website) and are fairly well known in the clinical community. Up until very recently, our business has been exclusively focused on helping our organizational/corporate clients and their employees; this work is typically performed under a non-disclosure agreement, precluding our ability to publicize our work. With this course, we are finally coming out, so to speak.

"Is this training course covered by insurance?"

Yes (well, it depends)! As you might suspect, your mileage may vary depending on your insurance provider, your coverage, etc. Email us at admin@habitdesign.org and we'd be happy to check for you.

"How does this relate to your Trainer-Affiliate Certification course?"

This course is a prerequisite for our subsequent Habit Design® Trainer-Affiliate Certification program. It does not provide authorization for enrolled participants to redistribute or conduct Habit Design® training. For more information about our certified trainer course, contact us below.

Note: Should any registrant cause unwelcome or unnecessary disruption in the course to other participants or training staff, we reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to expel any such registrant at any time, after a careful review of their disruptive conduct. Upon expulsion, the registrant will receive a notice via email and, at our sole discretion, may receive a partial refund. In other words: Be professional and you'll be OK, but we have had to expel people in the past for unprofessional behavior.

Staff support is unavailable during holidays (e.g., national/federal, state, religious, et al.), although you may continue with your self-directed training as you wish in the interim.

MEDICAL DISCLAIMER: This course and its associated one-on-one support is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
