"The Guys Next Door" documentary film (Portland premiere)
Event Information
Description
Waynflete and Breakwater are proud to present this award-winning film by Amy Geller and Allie Humenuk—an intimate portrait of Erik and Sandro, a gay married couple living in Portland whose friend Rachel is a surrogate for their two daughters (both of whom have attended Breakwater and Waynflete).
Spanning three years, this lyrical documentary tackles some of the most pertinent issues of our time: gay marriage and parenting, surrogacy as a path to having children, and the uncertainties of nature vs. nurture. Told with candor and humor, "The Guys Next Door" is a celebration of family.

The US Supreme Court recently made the groundbreaking decision to legalize same sex marriage nationwide. Despite this incredible social progress, gay families in America—as well as across the world—still face discrimination. But when people see what a loving and complex gay family looks like, it changes minds. This film needs to be seen! Let’s help the filmmakers raise enough money on November 18 to edit a broadcast version of the film so that thousands of other people can celebrate the expanding nature of the American family.
All proceeds from the screening (ticket sales and additional donations) will go towards this effort. If we reach $6,000, a generous supporter will provide a matching donation!
