Event description

Description

World War I forever changed America and the world. In conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the U.S.’s entry into the war, you are invited to a preview screening of The Great War at the Nine Network on Monday, March 27, from 6:00–7:30 p.m. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Nine’s Jim Kirchherr.

Panelists schedule to appear:
Patrick Allie, Military and Arms Curator, Missouri History Museum
Elizabeth Borgwardt, Associate Professor of History, Washington University

The clips from the episode “Propaganda and Americanism” tell the story of how President Woodrow Wilson reluctantly led America into the bloodiest conflict the world had ever seen, thereby transforming the United States into a dominant player on the international stage. In an opportunity to learn from the past, see how the ardent patriotism and determination to support America’s crusade for liberty abroad led to one of the most oppressive crackdowns on civil liberties at home in American history.

The Great War, a three-part, six-hour documentary, premieres Monday, April 10–Wednesday, April 12, 8:00-10:00 p.m. on Nine PBS.
