The Great War Dinner
Sat, April 8, 2017, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM EDT
The Great War Dinner, a centennial commemoration of the United States formally entering World War I, will be on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Trinity Bar & Restaurant (157 Orange St., New Haven). Internationally acclaimed author, distinguished historian, and Yale Grand Strategy Professor Paul M. Kennedy will be the keynote speaker. Seating is limited and advanced tickets are required for this exclusive fundraising event, which may be purchased online (GreatWar.Eventbrite.com) or from the organizers for $30.00.
Presented by the Veterans of Foreign Wars New Haven Post 12150, the centennial dinner will recall the April 6, 1917 American declaration of war against Germany, show respect for the service and sacrifice of the millions of U.S. troops who served in France, and consider how the conflict permanently transformed the nation and New Haven. Celebrated Chef and Trinity Co-Owner Shane Carty is providing hors d’oeuvres in the banquet room after 6 p.m.; a buffet dinner of roast beef, chicken marsala, vegetarian lasagna, and Carty’s signature Shepherd’s Pie at 7 p.m.; and dessert and coffee. There will be a raffle to support the VFW and a dedicated cash bar.
The Great War Dinner is a social function of a military nature being held after retreat. VFW comrades are requested to wear their Blues & Grays with medals (but not caps) and authorized veterans and service members may wear their dress uniforms.
Kennedy—who is the Yale director of International Security Studies, the J.
