The Great LA River CleanUp: Lewis MacAdams Riverfront Park
Date and time
The Great LA River CleanUp returns Summer 2022 - join us!
About this event
About the Site
The River needs YOU! This summer, join FoLAR in the Glendale Narrows to collect trash and prevent waste from polluting our watershed and urban waterways. Together, we’ll make a collective impact and do our part to tend to the vibrant urban ecosystems that thrive throughout Los Angeles.
Lewis MacAdams Riverfront Park, named in honor of our founder, is a beautiful park located along the LA River Greenway and Bike Path in the Elysian Valley. The Park features a sculpture to honor Lewis MacAdams, the father of the River Movement and indisputably the River's most influential advocate. The River has an earthen bottom here, and you're sure to find a heron perching on a willow tree or a red tailed hawk soaring above.
CleanUp supplies (work gloves and trash bags), hand sanitizer, and a water station are provided.
What to Wear & Bring
There are areas of this site where you may need to wade into the water in order to access the island that we’ll be cleaning, so wear sturdy, close-toed shoes you don’t mind getting wet, or boots or water shoes if you have them. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen and a hat. We’re providing cleanup supplies, so all you need to bring is a reusable water bottle - we’ll have ice water available onsite.
In collaboration with the SELAH Neighborhood Homeless Coalition, we'll be hosting a donation drive at this site. Volunteers are encouraged to donate any of the following items: new sandals/flip flops, sunscreen, hat/shade coverings, electrolyte powder, canned goods, individually wrapped snacks (e.g. granola bars, snack sized bags of chips, etc), hygiene kits, first aid kits, hand/body wipes, and batteries. Donated items will be given to our partners at SELAH to distribute to unhoused individuals along the River during their weekly engagement walks and monthly distribution events.
Parking
Parking in the Elysian Valley is extremely limited, so help FoLAR be good neighbors to Elysian Valley residents and consider carpooling, ridesharing, or biking to the event.
