Event description

Description

High Seas. Big Band. Open Bar. (A Fundraiser.)

The Waterfront Museum invites you to The Grand Neptune Ball – a celebration in New York Harbor of that bluest planet. All aboard will enjoy specialty cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, artwork by Bill Mensching, and a midsummer sunset. Most importantly, and in the liveliest Neptunian fashion, everyone will dance. A big band will be bursting and roaring and floating our boat.

And while we dance in the name of Neptune, we will be fundraising in the name of the barge–the only surviving wooden covered railroad barge from an era prior to today’s age of containerization - the Lighterage Era (1860-1960.) Afloat and active as a museum, classroom, theatre, it is the work of Captain David Sharps, who founded the Waterfront Museum in 1986 to promote maritime history and its importance to the everyday life of the city, and the world. Since 1994, the Barge has been docked in Red Hook, Brooklyn and has become a landmark and a source of pride for the community.

Fancy dress, and any nod to the maritime 1920s, is encouraged.

Attendance is limited. Tickets be purchased online and at the door.
