The Gospel and the Future of Cities -- UN Habitat III (Quito, Ecuador)
The Urban Shalom Project invites you to attend The Gospel and the Future of Cities Summit the weekend of Oct. 15-16 in Quito, Ecuador--which is the weekend immediately prior to the UN-Habitat III conference in Quito, Ecuador (Oct. 17-20).
After the conference you are also welcome to stay for the rest of the week at our UN Habitat III Basecamp to attend Habitat III where our goals are to be a thoughtful Christian presence in the dialouge, and to pray for the people attending and the outcomes of the conference. We believe evangelicals have a lot to learn about urbanism at Habitat III, but we also have a lot to offer from our biblical perspective, our experience and expertize, our concerns, and our values, so let's get there and be involved!
Co-lead by ISUM-Micah Global and the Lausanne/WEA Creation Care Network, the Urban Shalom Project is dedicated to helping the evangelical community engage with urban issues, and especially to be involved in the global dialogue on urbanism being convened by the United Nations at the Habitat III conference Oct. 17-20, 2016 in Quito, Ecuador.
THEME OF THE CONFERENCE:
In the next 20-30 years the population of the world living in cities will grow from approximately 50% to 75%! Whether we live in cites, suburbs, or rural areas how the world's urban areas are designed, grow, and develop over the next 20-30 years will have a major bearing on our lives--our families, the creation, the economy, our communities, our churches, and our spiritual lives. We are convening evangelicals from all around the world, therefore, to come to The Gospel and the Future of Cities Summit to explore together the broad spectrum of urban issues and challenges before us, and how we can respond from a biblical perspective, and as a people of God.
Publication Release--Micah Paper on Urban Shalom:
One of the outcomes of Micah Global’s 2015 triennial conference in Peru is the Micah Papers. A blend of a White Paper and an Encyclical Letter, the purpose of a Micah Paper is to be “a consultative tool to enable development of reflective thinking and holistic action” on an important area of integral mission for the evangelical community. The team planning this conference has been commissioned to produce the Urban Shalom-Micah Paper, which will be released and discussed at The Gospel and the Future of Cities Summit. Issues addressed in the Urban Shalom-Micah Paper include the theology of the city, the challenges of urban shalom and discipleship, disparity, diversity, and urban design.
