"What If Everything You Knew About Disciplining Kids Was Wrong?"
This was the celebrated article in Mother Jones that sparked a generation of parents to consider their approach to discipline. Realizing that a never-ending series of punishment and rewards doesn't create any permanent learning or intrinsic change in our children, we have been seeking a way to do better for our kids.
In The StudyPro's March Lunch and Learn, Katherine Reynolds Lewis an award-winning journalist, parent educator and author of The Good News about Bad Behavior will explain how children's lack of self-regulation and resilience is at the root of so many modern parenting dilemmas and will share guidance on how we can help our children feel more in charge of their own behavior.
In her talk, Katherine will present a portrait of the modern state of bad behavior as well as highlight empowering approaches for parents to navigate bad behavior. She will cover:
-
Why our kids are having a harder time than ever maintaining self-control
-
Feedback from top parenting, teaching, and brain-science experts on the approaches to discipline that work
-
Approaches to help parents navigate tricky behavioral situations and work with their children toward better solutions
Katherine will share why at the heart of this new model of discipline is a paradox - in order to get kids to behave the way you want, you must give up control of that outcome and let them do the work to get there themselves.
A limited number of books will be available for signing.
