Description

The Generative Dancer - Black Radical Traditions of Practice & Thought - this workshop is designed to be a full day experience from 10 - 6pm for intermediate/advanced choreographers and performers who want to deepen their practice through participation in an immersive learning environment that includes:

DO - A daily studio practice class that includes conditioning, ballet barre and contemporary dance. Improvisational practices that lead to the participants uncovering their unique approach to their art-making.

RESEARCH - Daily workshops & discussions on the NY scene of music, art, dance-making and performance poetry, theater and performance art from the 60’s to present by historians and artists who will give context to the work that influenced UBW’s trajectory.

DELVE DEEPER - The participants will be given research prompts prior to arrival as well as research assignments as a part of the workshop that will allow us to formulate how we investigate, probe and interrogate our body knowledge for movement information.

REPEAT - for nine days we will take a deep dive together to ignite our ability to be bold, courageous and bodacious in our art-making for the times we live in now. We will study the past as a jumping off point to the present.

Together we will lead workshops in – UBW Repertory; Writing & performance; Radical Black Jazz Music along with viewing visual art and creating embodied experiences.

REFUND POLICY
The registration fee for this program is $500, which includes the $75 deposit. The registration fee is non-refundable and may not be credited to any future UBW programming. Exceptions will only be considered for documented emergencies and at the discretion of UBW.
